Grip

Grip is the way you hold a firearm. Most people are holding their firearm too tightly. When the firearm is held correctly, the barrel of the firearm should line up with your forearm.

 In this section we focus on the handgun (semi-automatic)

  • The web of skin or the section between your thumb and index finger should fit snugly under the tong/back of the firearm.
  • Your bottom 3 fingers will then wrap around the grip area of the firearm and end up under the trigger housing. Your index finger must be placed alongside then side of the firearm. NOT resting on the trigger.
  • Your thumb will end up on the opposite side of your index finger.
  • When gripping the firearm use this hand to hold the firearm securely.
  • Place your other hand known as your support had will them over your first hand as follows.
  • Place the heel of your support hand onto the open space on the grip between the tips of your first hand and thumb.
  • Wrap the four fingers on your support hand around your first hand keeping them off the trigger area.
  • Place your support hand thumb under your first thumb. Using this hand to hold the firearm firmly.
  • DO NOT place your thumb behind the slide, as you will be injured when you fire off a round.
